Are the Blades bouncing back?

Just ten years ago, Sheffield United came 90 minutes from Premier League survival until a certain Argentinian popped up with a goal at Old Trafford and numerous court cases have followed.

However, under current boss Chris Wilder the blades seem to be on their way back to the Championship to join their Steel City rivals Wednesday. Tonight, they face Fleetwood at Bramall Lane and could go five points clear at the top of Sky Bet League One.

Since being relegated to League One back in 2011 they have finished a season in the Play Offs three times. On each occasion failing to gain promotion. Then last season saw them finish in a middle table position. The lowest in the last 10 years the club has been.

That brought change in the summer, the new gaffer appointed passionate Blades fan Billy Sharp as captain and the 30-year-old hasn’t held back in leading the team as he is the top scorer in the whole league on eighteen goals so far. His presence is something that supporters at every team up and down the country would love. A homegrown star who loves the club, it is that passion that can help grab this once great club back up the leagues.

In the last 48 hours, they have announced the signings of both James Hanson from Bradford and Jay O’Shea from Chesterfield. Both are key signings to a club looking to steal a march on promotion rivals by opening that gap at the top.

Within the positivity of the new signings and the club being at the top. They do need to bounce back following the hammering they took at Walsall and then a draw at home to struggling Gillingham. The fans will be expecting a win with neither of the new signings in the squad for tonight’s match. It won’t be an easy game as Fleetwood are unbeaten in their last ten league matches. If they do manage to get the three points that charge for the title will truly be on and with local rivals Sheffield Wednesday also in the hunt for promotion in the Championship.

It is exciting times for football in South Yorkshire.
